Nadine Says

9/07:

The past month of my life was very exciting and interesting!

The 11th of June 2010 was the official release date of my album in Germany. I had never previously spent any time in Germany and had been looking forward it. Naturally every city in the world posesses its own magic, but I was oh so pleased finding myself having lunch at a magnificent restaurant in Berlin, and coming across my album in a major record store on the same day. Nothing can compare to the warm feeling you have in your heart when you see your album on a shelf outside your home country for the first time.

The interviews I did in Hamburg; Berlin; Baden-Baden; Mannheim and Koln were intense, since I'm working on learning to speak German aswell as introduce myself to an international market in the industry of music. I met so many people and it's always important to me to not only meet faces and learn names, but to get to know the person behind the label that tags one as "journalist", "photographer" and "artist". To this day, this still remains one of the most challenging issues in my career. Spending time over coffee and also chatting about everyday topics makes the difference for me and realising that we are all human beings touched by the one international language - music!

The live show in Mainz for ZDF Fernsehgarten was wonderful - It's almost like time stands still and then suddenly it's all over. But the band was great and I had good time!

This was followed by a live performance for 3fm breakfast show in the Netherlands and an interview with Giel Beelen. The first DJ that could 'out talk' me ever! He is witty and sharp! And the band made it a pleasure to sing that day!

Could it get any better than performing at the official FIFA FAN FEST 2010 in Berlin?! What an amazing crowd  -  500 000 people! Mo and his team were so professional and we even had a five minute clip recorded to keep you all in the loop. Thanx Julia for capturing my experience at my first gig in Germany!

And one of the most frequently asked questions: what did you do inbetween your interviews and shows in Germany? I shopped, ate, experienced local traditions and flavour, but on the road I constantly follow what's happening on my site and on facebook.

Thank you for all the messages in German and to all the support from South Africa - dit beteken ongelooflik baie vir my!

5/05: A few days ago my first single 'Made Up My Mind' was sent to radio stations across Germany. Very exciting! I'm really happy to announce that 3 major stations immediately added the song to their playlist. So SWR3, WDR2 and MDR Jump have all been playing the single since day one! In the airplay charts the single entered at position 273, climbed to 164 last week and now has hit the 150th spot. Yay!

16/03: Today is March 16th and the big moment of the German release is approaching fast. I'm still taking German classes. It's very intensive and takes a lot of effort, but I want to be able to talk to the people in Germany, Switserland and Austria in their own language soon!

Die laaste twee drie weke van my lewe was vol verrassings! 'n Week voor my verjaarsdag op die 28ste Februarie het ek die nuus ontvang dat ek die World Peace song Festival toekenning ontvang het vir my liedjie "This time I know it's for real". Dis 'n fantastiese voorreg en eer! Dit is die tweede toekenning wat ek ontvang in 14 jaar en hierdie erkenning was onverwags.

Thank you to all the judges from different countries all around the world, this is truly a highlight for me as a performer and as an artist! Thank you to the songwriter, my manager, record company and Roy who initiated my entry into this competition!

I wish you all a great week and when you get the chance please subscribe to my newsletter below! As of this month I will send you all regular updates of what's going on in my life and my career.

11/03: In the course of the next few weeks I'll start touring again. I'll play all around the country, from Gauteng to the freestate and the cape. Check 'the story' for tour dates and info. Hope to see you all at one of my shows!

6/03: Did you know I have my own wine label since last year? Fryer's Cove is my business partner who launched the wine. I am very grateful to Jan Ponk and his team for this fantastic opportunity. They have the knowledge and offer the quality which made the South African wines so famous. So if you would like to have a toast and make it a musical one, have a glass of Nádine wine. More info in The Story section. Cheers!

4/03: I had a great birthday party last weekend! We've uploaded some pictures (taken by Dawid Burger), so take a look at them in the tourpics gallery.

27/02: Had a great time at DKNT this week! Programme will be featured this weekend on KYKNET @ 7:30pm, so tune in! You can also check out the pictures in the 'tourpics' gallery.

16/02: I had just finished my morning German class and was on my way to have something to eat when I checked my Blackberry and saw the email from Europe. It is such an honour for me to know that this very special song has touched people, especially when you consider that the judges came from many different countries.

It’s been an amazing journey for me. I must give credit to my team both here in South Africa and overseas and especially my manager who heard the song and knew it was the right one for me. ‘This Time I Know It’s For Real’ inspired the title of my album and has been an amazing calling card for me into new markets and new audiences.

I am very grateful that it is touching the hearts of music fans and professionals as much as it touches mine and thank the judges and organizers of the World Peace Festival for giving me the honour.

27/10: What a moment, last night! It’s the first official award I’ve ever received and is really something special after all those years of hard work with my whole team. I want to thank my fans, the South African media and especially radio. It’s through your and their support that ‘This Time I Know’ has been able to reach new audiences and take me into new waters. Thanks, Merci, Danke, Baie Dankie!

23/09: In a few minutes i leave Joburg airport for the release of my album ‘This Time I Know’ in New Zealand. The release will be supported by a tour taking in everywhere from Auckland to Wellington. Getting a release in New Zealand is an amazing feeling. It’s the beginning of a new chapter in my career. It almost feels like starting from scratch and I can’t wait to tell music fans in New Zealand that “this time, I know, it’s for real… It's a challenge, every time again... catching the attention of a crowd who is new to my work. I hope i can impress the people of New Zealand with my music and performances, turning them into "Nádine fans" forever. Take care my dear friends, good luck & speak soon!

  • Nádine's own wine

Nádine always dreamt about having her own wine label. Naturally, she needed a wine as perfect and pure as her voice that would match her perfectionist attitude in life.

Last year she met up with friends Jan Ponk and Renske van Zyl from Fryer’s Cove Vineyards and the wine venture became a reality by launching it at one of the biggest music festivals in South Africa called “Rittelfees”.

  • Nádine triumphs at Vonk Awards

Exactly a year after its South African release, Nádine’s ‘This Time I Know’ was named Best Crossover Album at the annual Rapport Vonk Afrikaanse Musiektoekennings. Held on October 26th, the Vonk Awards are a celebration of Afrikaans music and Nádine triumped over some stiff competition including labelmate Steve Hofmeyr as well as Dozi, Bobby Angel and Billy Forest. Nádine’s impact on the South African market was further underscored by a breathtaking performance of the title track off her album, which has been a huge radio hit for the artist.

  • An emotional Nádine at the awards

Nádine was clearly moved by the award, thanking everyone who has supported her career during the last 15 years. “It’s the first official award I’ve ever received and is really something special after all those years of hard work with my whole team, “Nádine told the audience. “I want to thank my fans, the South African media and especially radio. It’s through your support that ‘This Time I Know’ has been able to reach new audiences and take me into new waters.”

  • The award is a confirmation of Nádine’s talent

Hugo Foets, Nádine’s manager, said the award was confirmation of Nádine’s talent. “From the first moment I heard Nádine’s voice I was impressed by it. During the recording of the album I was struck by her incredible talent as well as her inexhaustible commitment and rare perseverance. This award is a great recognition for a big South African artist who will soon be discovered by the rest of the world”.

  • A superstar with a super vocal

Irving Schlosberg, Chairman of EMI Music South Africa, was also thrilled with Nádine’s award. “Nádine is a true superstar artist who has contributed significantly to the South African music industry. This achievement is just reward for her special talents and the high esteem in which she is held in our music industry. “Her vocals on “This Time I Know” are exceptional and her album is truly a world class production, which certainly deserves success.  We are really hopeful that the award will raise further awareness of Nádine’s talents.“

  • High-profile New Zealand release and tour in October

Nádine has secured a high-profile release of her album ‘This Time I Know’ in New Zealand. The singer’s album release was supported by a nine-date tour of New Zealand, taking in everywhere from Auckland to Wellington. “Getting a release in New Zealand is an amazing feeling,” says Nádine. “It’s the beginning of a new chapter in my career that will also open doors in several other territories around the world. It almost feels like starting from scratch and I can’t wait to fly to New Zealand and tell music fans there that “this time, I know it’s for real”…”

  • New Zealand is the next step in Nádine’s album development

Nádine proved, with several live concerts last summer in Europe, that she can easily catch the attention of a crowd who is new to her work and she will touch the hearts of New Zealand audiences! There is no doubt that she will impress the people of New Zealand with her great music and fabulous performances, turning them into Nádine fans forever”.

  • 500.000 albums

Nádine started her music career as a teenager. For the past 13 years she has been capturing the hearts of Afrikaans music fans, selling an astonishing 500.000 albums along the way.

Most of her records combine songs in Afrikaans as well as English ones. Her biggest hit so far on the Afrikaans music market was "Kaapse Draai", written by Steve Hofmeyr. With "This Time I Know" the singer spreads her wings and shows her immense vocal talent.

  • This time I know

In 2009 Nádine is stretching her creative soul, in the most breathtaking way, with the release of a new album. Titled ‘This Time I Know’, the album has all the makings of bonafide smash hit, taking Nádine into new markets - including international waters - whilst never leaving behind the core base of fans who have allowed her to enjoy the astonishingly successful music career that she has enjoyed up to now.

  • I will be strong

Talking without actually singing but just using sounds to convey emotions... ”Listening to ‘This Time I Know’ and it’s easy to hear what Nádine is talking about. ‘I Will Be Strong’ is drenched with the emotion that being left by a lover brings, yet it never overwhelms what is one of the album’s standout tracks.

  • Made up my mind

It may be more upbeat but the single ‘Made Up My Mind’ is similarly able to instantly strike a chord in the hearts of listeners on a song about standing up for yourself. People from Kelly Clarkson’s team really liked the song but it was Manic who said to manager Hugo Foets “this song is written for Nádine, it's a tophit for nobody else”.

  • Coming home

‘Coming Home’ is one of the most affecting ballads on the album. “I had spent so much time on planes, in hotels, and away from my friends and family as I went back and forth to record the album that this song really touched a nerve. “ The longing is evident in Nádine’s take on the song which has radio hit written all over it.

  • Two songs were taken by Nelly Furtado

‘I’d already felt what it was like to lose a song to another artist when two songs that we really wanted were taken by Nelly Furtado,” Nádine reveals. “I was heartbroken but knowing that Nelly had taken the songs showed us we were on the right track with selection the songs for the album.”

  • Producer Nick Manic

Key to the unfolding of ‘This Time I Know’ is Nick Manic – a Stockholm based songwriter and producer who worked several years with Simon Cowell. (The man behind artists like Leona Lewis, Westlife and Il Divo). The connection with Manic proved to be one of the most potent on ‘This Time I Know’, with the highly regarded songwriter taking production duties on the album and contributing a significant number of songs to it. “Working with Nick was amazing” confides Nádine. The Manic-penned “This Time I Know It’s For Real” is Nádine's favorite!

  • Number ONE hits

In South Africa, Nádine has expanded her reach by earning a national top 10 hit with “This Time I Know It’s For Real” which stayed on the charts for several weeks and reached number one on many radio station. In what is a hit-heavy album ‘This Time I Know’ has also produced a slate of other radio hits for Nádine  including “Made Up My Mind” which charted on the national airplay charts, as well as many key stations including RSG, Highveld, Jacaranda, KFM  and OFM, and “Coming Home”, the brand new single at South African radio, October 2009.

  • Live in Europe - DVD

Nádine’s presence on the domestic music scene has been added to by her appearance on several music shows including Sweepslag, Noot Vir Noot, Jukebox and Dis Hoe Dit Is, and she’s also been featured on the covers of a number of magazines including Sarie, Finesse and Vrouekeur. Nádine will also cap a very successful 2009 with the late October release of a new DVD, ‘Live In Europe’, which captures the singer during several well-received live shows as well as a behind-the-scenes look at her experiences overseas.

  • From city to town to village

As much as Nádine knows she’s emotionally ready for the big leap into new waters that’s currently underway, she’s under no illusion that it will be easy and is prepared for the long road. “I started out just going from city to town to village in a touring van asking to play my music and entertain people and that hard work is something I am very excited to do all over again in places and countrys all over the world” Nádine simply states.
